"An "even chance for life" yesterday was given a 2-pound 14-ounce baby girl, believed to be the smallest bundle of humanity every subjected to a major abdominal operation. When born last Thursday at Burbank Hospital almost 2 months prematurely, it was discovered that the baby suffered from "an unheard-of condition"--the child's stomach was twisted into the shape of a sausage, thus obstructing the passage from the stomach to the intestine.
Early yesterday surgeons by-passed the obstruction by grafting a segment of the intestine above the closure. Last night the baby was gaining, doctors reporting she has a 50% chance for survial.". She was the daughter of Calvert W Dayton and Arbutus Estelle Hyer. Vicki died in March 1951 in Burbank, Los Angeles county, California.
