Robert was born on 24 July 1820 in Morgan, Georgia. He was the son of Robert Chandler and Margaret Johnston. He married Mary Jane Wade in Georgia on 15 February 1844. Robert died on 4 February 1877 in Winston County,, Mississippi, at age 56. His body was interred in Winston County,, Mississippi, in Antioch Baptist Cemetary. Antioch cemetery is about 10 miles northeast of Louisville, off Highway 25..
They lived in Morgan, Jackson, & DeKalb counties in Georgia before moving to Watoola in Russell county, Alabama 1854. In 1870 they moved to Dodo in Choctaw county, Mississippi. In 1877 they had moved to Kewanee in Winston County, Mississippi, lastly they settled at Gum Branch in Winston county, Mississippi Robert was a farmer, most probably a share-cropper. In 1860 he listed personal property of only $200, but in 1870 he listed $1600 in real estate and $500 in personal property.
