He was the son of Coleman Watkins McElvany and Ann Adeliza Savage. He married Frances Luella Robbins in Pontotoc county,, Mississippi, on 17 December 1888. Augusta died in 1931 in Mansfield,, Texas.

     Augustus was born in 1833. He was the son of Robert P. McElvany and Nancy Ann Missouri Harris. Augustus died in September 1861 in Lynchburg, Virginia. His body was interred on 22 September 1861 in Lynchburg, Virginia. August is buried in Grave 8, 3rd line, lot 159..
     August joined Capt. Reiod's Co. 20th Mississippi C.S.A. He died at College Hospital in Lynchburg, Va.
