Nancy was born circa 1787 in
South Carolina. She married
Robert P. McElvany. Nancy died circa 1879 in
Thaxton,, Mississippi.
Nancy could have been a Thompson or a Harris. It is thought that William G. Harris was her brother. There is no concrete information as to what her maiden name was. Nancy was forced into Probate by an Edward Brown, making a claim for his children. Brown stated the children were the rightful grandchildren of the decesed, and their mother now dead. Nancy McElvany refused to act as Administrator of the estate, instead naming her son John T. McElvany for the duty in February, 1852. Nancy petitioned the court that the sale from the Estate was insufficient to pay the claims against the estate. After this took place, Nancy lost the farm and moved with her son Coleman Watkins to Pontotoc County, Mississippi.
