Couple of interesting item I have come across
Hi Norm, there is a detailed history of the Savage Family, and their house of Rocksavage, in the book (
Hi Jim there is no reference in the book to any of the male Savages going to America, or to any other Savage lines Sir John Savage who was created a baronet in 1611 was the ninth so named to inherit the Clifton estates What happened was that James was hard pressed to find the funds needed to maintain troops to quell a rebellion in Ulster. To raise the money he created a new order; of knighthood, to be conferred on gentlemen who were prepared to covet the cost of keeping thirty soldiers in Ireland for three years. Sir John paid a thousand pounds. for which he was created a Baronet, he died in '1615. His eldest surviving son, Thomas succeeded him and he was created a Viscount, he died ri 1635 He was succeeded by his eldest son Lord Vtscount John Savage, who in 1639 was created Earl Rivers, and died 1654 He was succeeded by Thomas. who died ri 1694. Thomas's eldest son having died in 1693 the second son Richard, succeeded, he died in 1714. The title and estates passed to a cousin, John Savage a Catholic priest, who declined to accept his inheritance, and with his death in 1728. the title of Earl Rivers became extinct The Earl's only daughter Elizabeth. Countess of Barrymore claimed the estates. On her death the estates went to her only child. Lady Penelope Barry. who married the Honourable James Cholmcndeley in 1730. She died wthout issure, and thus the blood of the Savages became extinct. Have you looked at the Savages on this site.l http i/www.dcs.hull ac uk/ipublic/geneaIogy;royai/gedx55 html I hope this is some help Regards Stan !
